USVI Track & Field star Michelle Smith.
Virgin Islands Sports Ambassador Michelle Smith closed her NCAA season with two major performances at the 2026 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships, finishing fourth in the 400m hurdles and contributing to a school-record relay run for the University of Georgia.
Smith placed fourth in the 400m hurdles in 55.10. She also delivered a 51.07 split in the 4x400m relay, helping Georgia finish second in the event and set a new school record of 3:20.96.
Her performances contributed to the Georgia Bulldogs securing their third consecutive NCAA National Championship.
Following the meet, Smith said she had been dealing with physical discomfort during the competition, sharing that she “was not feeling her best but pushed through as best as she could.”
Smith’s showing in Eugene adds to her record as one of the Virgin Islands’ leading young athletes and continues to highlight ISV talent on the collegiate stage.
The Virgin Islands Track & Field Federation congratulated Smith on her NCAA Championship performances and her role in Georgia’s team victory.
Michelle Smith, Malique Smith, Omar Simpson, Sofia Swindell, Saraiah Walkes, and Mikaela Smith will all fly home to the Virgin Islands to compete in the Adrian Durant VI National Championships on June 20. Competition begins at 8:00 a.m. at the St. Croix Educational Complex Track & Field Facility.
