Virgin Islands sports ambassador Michelle Smith won gold in the 400m hurdles in 54.93 seconds, setting a Championship Record and securing the Virgin Islands’ first gold medal at the first-ever Senior PANAM Championships, while qualifying automatically for the 2027 PANAM Games in Lima.

Michelle Smith’s 54.93-second gold medal run in the 400m hurdles set a Championship Record and qualified her for the 2027 PANAM Games, following Day 1 results that included personal bests, Eduardo Garcia’s 5000m finish and a mixed relay national record.

Virgin Islands athletes opened the Senior PANAM Championships with personal bests in the 100m, Eduardo Garcia’s 5000m performance and a mixed 4x400m national record before Michelle Smith won 400m hurdles gold in 54.93 seconds and qualified for Lima, Peru.
