Michelle Smith, a standout freshman at the University of Georgia, played a key role in securing victory for her team in the 4x400 meters relay at the SEC Championships held at Texas A&M University, according to a release issued late Sunday by the Virgin Islands Track & Field Federation.

Running the second leg of the relay, Smith clocked an impressive split of 52.10 seconds, contributing significantly to her team’s historic achievement. Her strong performance, combined with those of Dejanea Oakley, Haley Tate, and Aaliyah Butler, led the University of Georgia to a record-breaking time of 3:26.42.

According to the release, the team’s time not only secured the SEC Championship title but also set a new school record and a facility record. Their performance stands as the fastest time in the NCAA this season and ranks as the second fastest time in the world.

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation is encouraging all Virgin Islands athletes to register with the federation. Registration can be completed online through the official VITFF website under the Registration section.
