The Cleveland State Vikings won their first Horizon League tournament since 2009 and will make their first NCAA tournament and have two players with Virgin Islands roots, D’moi Hodge and Franklyn Penn Jr D’moi Hodge and Franklyn Penn Jr. coming out of the British Virgin Islands, on their roster.
The Vikings defeated Oakland 80-69 to seal the deal and punch their ticket the NCAA Tournament in a game that saw Mr. Hodge scored 15 points.
Mr. Hodge, a Junior, has started in all 25 games he played in this season and has averaged 10.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists this season. Hodge’s season high for points this season was 46 points against Purdue Fort-Wayne when he shot 15-23 for the field and made 10 three-pointers.
Mr. Penn Jr., a senior, had a slower year than his junior season and only appeared in two games scoring 4 points against Youngstown State in a 81-74 victory in December. In his junior season he saw action in 23 games and averaged 5.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist, and 1 steal per game. He scored his career high of 15 points against Detroit Mercy.
The pair will learn their opponent in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Sunday at 7 p.m. A.S.T on CBS. In ESPN Bracketology’s 3/10/2021 11:34 P.M. ET the Vikings a 15 seed playing Iowa, a 2 seed. ESPN’s Bracketology has been getting updated daily during conference championship week.
