ST. CROIX —The body of a man with multiple gunshot wounds was found floating in the waters of Good Hope Beach in Frederiksted Saturday morning, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Toby Derima has announced.

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Jahkim E. Santiago, was discovered at 9:15 a.m. following a call received by the 911 emergency call center.

Officers responded and found a lifeless male in the water. When the body was retrieved, detectives found that the male had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Mr. Derima said.

While a homicide appeared to be the obvious cause of death, the V.I.P.D. had not ruled out other scenarios, and said results of an autopsy would confirm the exact cause of death.

The case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. The V.I.P.D. is asking anyone who has information about the incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at (340) 778-4950, or contact Crime Stoppers USVI here, or by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
