3x3 Basketball Tournament in USVI Starts in November

The 3X3 Basketball Organization, a member of the Virgin Islands Basketball Federation and registered with the Office of the Lt. Governor, has announced the start of the USVI 3X3 Basketball Qualifying Series.

According to the release, the 3X3 tournament series will alternate tournament games between the districts of St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John. A total of six tournaments with three tournaments in each district. The 3X3 Basketball season starts from November 1, 2021, to October 31, 2021. USVI 3X3 Tournament play begins November 19 to November 20, 2021, on St. Croix.

The champion from each district shall compete for the Territorial Basketball championship. All tournaments are played under the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3X3 rules.

According to the release, the purpose of the series is to qualify teams through FIBA's point system, gain enough points, and participate in FIBA 3X3 tournaments. In addition, one of the 3X3 Basketball Organization goals is to qualify teams to participate in regional, national, and international FIBA 3X3 tournaments.

The 3X3 Basketball Organization will consult with the appropriate health agencies related to Covid-19 and the other variants protocols, the release stated. Additionally, all tournament dates are subject to the USVI health officials' guidance and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There will be two divisions, 19 and under, and an open division for men and women. Team rosters shall consist of four players with no coach or other individuals in the players' area during tournament play.
