Comprehensive Global VI has announced the addition of Dr. Benjamin Sookhoo, a highly skilled orthopaedic traumatologist, to its team. A specialist in complex fracture care and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Sookhoo brings extensive experience and cutting-edge expertise to the Virgin Islands.
A Leader in Orthopaedic Trauma Care
Originally from Tampa, Florida, Dr. Sookhoo has built a strong reputation in orthopaedic trauma surgery. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Public Health at the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida. He then earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, where he also served as a university ambassador. His orthopaedic surgical internship and residency were completed at the Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University, followed by an advanced trauma fellowship at Orlando Health, training under some of the leading experts in the field.
Expertise in Advanced Surgical Techniques
Dr. Sookhoo specializes in a wide range of orthopaedic trauma care, including complex fractures, periarticular reconstructions, pelvic ring and acetabulum injuries, and revision arthroplasty. His expertise extends to shoulder, hip, and knee arthroplasty, as well as malunion and nonunion correction, post-traumatic deformities, and infections. A published surgeon, Dr. Sookhoo’s research focuses on innovative solutions in orthopaedic trauma care.
As a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) and a faculty member at Rothman Orthopaedics Florida at AdventHealth, Dr. Sookhoo stays at the forefront of his field. He continuously integrates cutting-edge technologies and the latest advancements in orthopaedic medicine to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
With deep Caribbean roots—his mother from Trinidad and Tobago and his father from Guyana—Dr. Sookhoo has a strong connection to the region. His dedication to medical outreach has taken him on numerous mission trips, where he has helped improve access to healthcare in underserved areas. Now, he is eager to extend that mission by partnering with Dr. Brian Bacot and the Comprehensive Orthopaedic Global team to enhance specialized orthopaedic care in the Virgin Islands and surrounding communities.
Looking Ahead: Expanding Access to Orthopaedic Care
According to Comprehensive Global VI, Dr. Sookhoo is enthusiastic about the collaboration and looks forward to expanding access to high-quality orthopaedic care throughout the region. “I am excited to work with Dr. Bacot and the team to bring advanced orthopaedic trauma solutions to the Virgin Islands and beyond,” he said.
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Sookhoo takes pride in his role as a father to two wonderful daughters, with whom he shares his passions and life experiences.
