USVI Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett
Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett has responded favorably to Governor Albert Bryan's State of the Territory address delivered Monday night, committing herself to working with the governor to achieve the intended goals.
“Last night Governor Bryan gave his 5th State of the Territory address and detailed numerous projects, proposals, and clear objectives on how he intends to expand growth and prosperity for the territory,” Ms. Plaskett said, in a statement issued Wednesday morning.
"I and my team are prepared to continue working with his office to partner with shared goals that will support a brighter present and future for all Virgin Islanders,” Ms. Plaskett continued. “I am proud that my team and I have been able to work to advance the interests of the Virgin Islands in Congress and it is gratifying when those interests align with Governor Bryan’s initiatives for our territory.
"We will continuously lead the way in championing the interests of the Virgin Islands through bipartisan support during the 118th Congress to provide federal legislation and funding that have been foundational for so many advances in the past few years,” the congressional delegate promised.
Ms. Plaskett listed a number of initiatives in which she has assisted and continues to support the governor: “From the permanent increase in Medicaid funding, to the hundreds of millions of dollars secured through the American Rescue Plan Act for education, childcare, and the reimbursement of the Earned Income Tax Credit, to the historic acquisition of National Heritage Area status for St. Croix, the legislative wins we secure are a direct representation of my advocacy to ensure Virgin Islanders remain at the forefront of economic parity and equity and equal representation,” she detailed.
Concluding her statement, Ms. Plaskett said, “It has been a privilege to collaborate with the governor, his office, and the people of the Virgin Islands. I am dedicated to the continuation of our joint efforts to reimagine and rebuild the Virgin Islands so that its people may prosper.”
