On Tuesday, St. Croix candidates for the general elections drew lots to determine their place on the ballot come November 4th. St. Thomas will have to wait until Thursday to draw their lots.
Only twenty positions were determined on Tuesday in the St. Croix District for senatorial seats and five individuals seeking seats on the St. Croix Board of Elections.
Normally the process would include the gubernatorial candidates, but because the St. Thomas-St. John District Board of Elections failed to certify their district's elections by the August 17th deadline, citing a lack of quorum on Sunday and Monday, the gubernatorial candidates will have to wait until Thursday.
The casting ballots process is rather simple: the Board of Elections drops numbers in a box representing ballot positions, then each candidate is entitled a turn to draw from the box, with picking set in the order they filed their nomination papers and petitions.
Tuesday's process was facilitated by Deputy Supervisor of Elections Genevieve Whitaker, while Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes listened from St. Thomas via speaker phone.
