After two failed gubernatorial runs and one term as lieutenant governor in the Schneider administration, Kenneth Mapp became the 8th elected governor of the U. S. Virgin Islands in a landslide victory on Tuesday, beating out Donna Christensen by over 6,000 votes with 89 percent of all votes in.

WRITE-IN (IND). . . . . . . . . 58 .24The win is a welcomed one for Mapp supporters, as the independent candidate emerged as the front runner in the November 4 General Election, at times leading the 18-year Delegate to Congress by as much as 11 percent as unofficial numbers began coming in from both the St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John districts.

When the Elections System of the Virgin Islands announced official certified results for the General Election last Saturday night, Mapp remained in front with 12,108 votes and Christensen with 10,173. However, the number of votes Mapp received then were not enough to take him to the 50 percent+1 of votes required in order to win the election. Tuesday's results, however, saw Mapp beating Christensen by even a greater margin with well over 6,000 votes ahead of the Congresswoman.
In a recent video interview with VI Consortium that is posted below, Mapp outlined his plans for the Virgin Islands, promising 1,000 government jobs once elected, his strategy to lower the cost of energy, ways to revitalize the Christiansted and Frederiksted towns and much more.
