The biggest party of 2014 happened in Peter's Rest on the night of Tuesday, November 18 and into the wee hours of Wednesday morning. There, a sea of Virgin Islanders filled the not-so-large parking lot near the Sprint Wireless store, across from Plaza Extra and Cost-U-Less, where a band played soca music while people danced for hours. Their hearts were thumping with adrenaline following the news that Kenneth Mapp had defeated Donna Christensen to become the eighth Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands, and although the wait for Mapp and Potter, who were making their way to St. Croix from St. Thomas, was long, people weren't bothered because the mood was decidedly festive.
