Liberty Mobile and its contractor, Specialized Utility and Fiber Construction, are facing a wrongful death lawsuit after a laborer allegedly fell from a contractor trailer and was crushed by it.
The incident occurred on July 10, 2025. Simeon Thomas, known as “Sancoch,” had been hired by Specialized Utility and was riding atop a trailer being pulled by the company’s utility truck, according to a lawsuit filed this week by Mr. Thomas’ family.
The trailer, the complaint says, was carrying “a Bobcat tractor and heavy communications wiring belonging to Defendant Liberty.”
At some point, Mr. Thomas reportedly fell from the trailer and was run over. He later died from his injuries at the Schneider Regional Medical Center.
The lawsuit alleges that Specialized Utility had a pattern of allowing day laborers to ride on trailers being hauled behind utility trucks, rather than inside the truck’s cabin as the law requires.
The civil complaint further argues that Liberty Mobile “knew or reasonably should have known that Defendant Specialized’s unsafe pattern and practice created a dangerous condition.”
LeQuan Scott, identified in the lawsuit as the driver of the truck from which Mr. Thomas fell, is also named as a defendant.
According to the complaint, the negligence of both companies and Mr. Scott caused Mr. Thomas’ death. The lawsuit alleges wrongful death, negligence, gross negligence, and negligent infliction of emotional distress stemming from the fatal incident.
The estate of Simeon Thomas is seeking damages from those it says were responsible for his death.
As of press time, none of the three defendants had filed a response to the complaint.
