ST. CROIX — An unfortunate discovery was made Monday morning in Orange Grove near St. Dunstan's Episcopal School, where unidentified human remains were found, according to the V.I. Police Department.

The V.I.P.D. said  the 911 Emergency Call Center received a distressing report of human remains sighted in the vicinity, which led to the swift dispatch of officers to the location.

The initial report to the emergency call center was made at approximately 10:05 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, officers liaised with a concerned resident who reported the disturbing find. The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, was working near the property when he came across what he believed to be human remains.

Law enforcement officials have since confirmed the citizen's report, stating that what they observed at the scene indeed appeared to be human remains. However, due to the advanced stage of decomposition of the body, officers were unable to immediately identify the individual.

The discovery has set in motion a thorough investigation as authorities strive to identify the remains and unravel the circumstances surrounding the individual's death. As this case is still under active investigation, law enforcement is asking for the public's assistance.

Anyone with information that could aid the investigation is encouraged to come forward. Tip-offs can be made by calling 911, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) Tip Line at (340) 778-4850, or Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1(800)222-TIPS or online here.
