ST. THOMAS — An incident in St. Thomas late Sunday night being labeled as a hit-and-run vehicular occurrence by the V.I.P.D., left a pedestrian dead, said police spokesman Toby Derima Monday. Investigators are seeking the community's assistance in locating a vehicle believed to be involved.

According to the news release, an investigation into the incident revealed that the pedestrian was walking across Brookman Road heading east, when a maroon Acura MDX traveling north on the road struck the pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle did not stop after the collision, as required by law, according to the V.I.P.D.

The pedestrian was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries a short time later, said police.

The pedestrian was identified by next of kin as 37-year-old Royson JnoBaptiste.

Mr. Derima said officers on Monday were actively searching for the driver of the maroon Acura MDX, and are asking anyone with information that can assist in locating the vehicle, to call 911 or the VIPD at (340) 774-2211.
