ST. CROIX — Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a deceased male near the Juan Luis Hospital in St. Croix early Friday morning.
According to the V.I. Police Department, on January 3 at approximately 7:28 a.m., officers received a report from the 911 Emergency Call Center regarding a deceased individual found at the fence line behind the hospital.
A nurse walking along the area near the generator room alerted the hospital’s law enforcement officer after observing a patient who appeared unwell. Upon reaching the individual, the officer found him unresponsive. A responding doctor arrived shortly thereafter and declared the man deceased at 7:30 a.m.
According to investigations, the deceased had arrived at Juan Luis Hospital by ambulance and was registered at 12:32 p.m. the previous day. However, when called for service after 6:00 p.m., he was no longer present in the waiting room.
The investigation is being handled by the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Major Crimes Unit, alongside medical examiners who are working to determine the cause of death.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case to contact the Virgin Islands Police Department or the Major Crimes Unit. Community members may also submit anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
