USVI, Puerto Rico, Other Caribbean Islands Urged to Monitor Progress of System Churning in Atlantic

Two potential storm systems are currently forming over the tropical Atlantic, heating up the region as meteorologists keep a keen eye on their progression. The system known as AL91 is forecast to evolve into a tropical depression or storm as soon as Monday night. Its trajectory points towards the northern Caribbean, putting areas like Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in its path.

Central Tropical Atlantic (AL92):

A broad area of low pressure, marked by increasingly organized showers and thunderstorms, has been spotted several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Conditions in the environment look ripe for further development, and meteorologists anticipate a tropical depression or storm to emerge later today or tonight.

The system's predicted path is generally westward at a speed of 15 to 20 mph across the central tropical Atlantic through the middle part of this week. There is a high probability of 90 percent for this system to develop into a more substantial meteorological event over the next 48 hours, as well as over the coming week. 

Eastern Tropical Atlantic:

A more disorganized weather pattern characterized by showers and thunderstorms has been located several hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands. It's linked to a tropical wave, and some gradual development of this system is expected through the middle and latter parts of this week as it moves westward at 10 to 15 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.

The formation chance over the next 48 hours is lower for this system, standing at 20 percent, and remains relatively low at 30 percent over the next week.

Residents and travelers in these regions are encouraged to monitor local weather reports and heed warnings issued by the National Weather Service and local authorities to ensure their safety.
