The system, coded as AL92, has seen a gradual increase in organized showers and thunderstorms. The NHC warns that the system's potential for formation into a tropical depression is high over the next 48 hours, pegged at a 70 percent chance. The seven-day outlook predicts a further rise to a 90 percent chance of formation.
Predicted to move westward at speeds of 15 to 20 mph, the system is likely to traverse the eastern and central tropical Atlantic over the middle of the coming week.
