A tropical wave currently several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is showing increased signs of organization and has a high likelihood of developing into a tropical depression in the coming days, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The system, labeled AL95, is expected to strengthen late this week as it moves westward to west-northwestward at a speed of 15 to 20 mph over the central and western portions of the tropical Atlantic. Parts of Caribbean, including the U.S. Virgin Islands, is in the storm's current projected path, though it has tilted northward slightly.
Environmental conditions are anticipated to be conducive for further development of the system. The National Hurricane Center has given it a 60 percent chance of formation within the next 48 hours, and a 90 percent chance within the next seven days.
Residents in the storm's path are advised to monitor the situation closely and take necessary precautions as the storm system develops.
