The National Hurricane Center says a tropical depression is likely to form within the next couple of days from a disturbance in the central tropical Atlantic that now has an 80 percent chance of development within seven days, while two additional systems are being monitored farther north and east.
In its 2 a.m. Wednesday Tropical Weather Outlook, the NHC said showers and thunderstorms associated with AL92, a tropical wave located about 800 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, were continuing to show signs of organization.
Environmental conditions are forecast to remain favorable for development during the next several days.
A tropical depression is likely to form within a couple of days as the system moves westward to west-northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic.
The NHC gives AL92 a 70 percent chance of formation within 48 hours and an 80 percent chance within seven days.
AL93 Northeast of Bermuda at 50 Percent
The NHC is also monitoring AL93, a broad area of low pressure located about 1,000 miles east-northeast of Bermuda.
Recent satellite wind data indicated that the system had developed gale-force winds, although its circulation remained elongated and associated convection had become less organized during the previous several hours.
Some development remains possible through Wednesday night, and the NHC said a short-lived tropical storm could form as the system moves eastward to east-northeastward at approximately 20 mph across the central subtropical Atlantic.
The system is forecast to reach cooler waters by Thursday, ending its opportunity for further formation.
AL93 has a 50 percent chance of development within 48 hours and through seven days.
The NHC noted that additional information on the system is included in High Seas Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service.
New Tropical Wave Emerges Off West Africa
A third disturbance is being monitored in the eastern tropical Atlantic.
A tropical wave just offshore of the west coast of Africa was producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms early Wednesday.
Environmental conditions are forecast to remain generally favorable for some development during the next several days as the system moves westward or west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.
The system currently has a 10 percent chance of formation within 48 hours and a 20 percent chance within seven days.
The NHC’s Wednesday morning outlook covers the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of America.
