A weather system located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the Lesser Antilles is expected to develop into a tropical depression in the next few days, though further organization is projected to wane by the weekend as the system meets unfavorable conditions.
That's according to the National Hurricane Center, which said during its 2:00 a.m. forecast that showers and thunderstorms associated with the system have increased and become a little better organized.
"Environmental conditions are expected to be somewhat conducive for development, and a tropical depression could form during the next couple of days while the low moves westward at around 10 mph over the tropical Atlantic," NHC said. "By the weekend, however, less favorable conditions should limit additional development."
The N.H.C. gave the system a 40 percent chance of development through the next 48 hours, and equally 40 percent development chance through the next five days.
