Thanksgiving will look different for many residents in the territory in many ways this year, but that doesn’t mean they have to give up having turkey for dinner. Alpine Security USVI is making this Thanksgiving a little bit happier for those in the community who would not have a traditional holiday meal during the pandemic.
An initiative that started in 2011 with gifting first responders with thanksgiving turkeys has turned into a yearly event for the company. This year due to the ongoing pandemic, Alpine has decided to expand their charitable services and will be gifting 400 hundred turkeys to the entire health department on St. Thomas and St. Croix, along with five low-income neighborhoods. Those neighborhoods include; Kerwin Terrace, Bovoni Projects, Oswald Harris Court, Pearson Garden, and St. John…( was unable to hear the neighborhood for st john.)
Jason Charles Alpine Security Chief of External Affairs said, “this year, Alpine Security went above and beyond this year to make this initiative work.” Mr. Charles truly believes that this year is something more special than in the past years.
Mr. Charles recalls one senior resident he came across telling him she would have a lonely thanksgiving this year because she lost a family member who used to come from abroad to spend Thanksgiving with her from the deadly Covid-19 virus. “She was really thankful to be able to have her turkey and spend it with the other residents of Bovoni,” said Mr. Charles.
With all the economic hardships several residents have encountered due to Covid, Mr. Charles thinks it was important for those residents to see a token of appreciation from someone who cares. This is Alpine’s 9th year of giving out Turkey’s to the community; the company intends on continuing its charitable initiative in the foreseeable future.
