In recognition of National Public Health Week, observed from April 7 to April 13, the V.I. Department of Health will temporarily close its offices and clinics on designated days in each district to celebrate Employee Appreciation Day for its staff.

According to a release issued by the department, this year’s observance will include dedicated time to honor the contributions and commitment of DOH’s employees, who are credited with playing a vital role in safeguarding public health across the territory.

In the St. Thomas-St. John District, all Department of Health offices and clinics will be closed on Monday, April 7. Normal operations in that district will resume on Tuesday, April 8.

Meanwhile, in the St. Croix District, VIDOH offices and clinics will be closed on Friday, April 11. Regular operations are scheduled to resume on Monday, April 14.

The closures are intended to provide time for the department to recognize its staff’s dedication, resilience, and behind-the-scenes work in protecting and improving community health throughout the Virgin Islands.

“National Public Health Week is not only a time to engage our community, but also an opportunity to recognize the individuals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to protect and promote health in the Virgin Islands,” said Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion.

The department expressed its appreciation for the public’s understanding and urged residents to plan accordingly during the closures. The Employee Appreciation Day activities form part of the broader national observance, which highlights the importance of public health infrastructure, access, and community outreach.
