Tina Comissiong is the new chief executive officer of Schneider Regional Medical Center after having served in the acting capacity since the departure of Dr. Luis Amaro in Sept. 2021. She was introduced to the public by Dr. Jerry Smith, District Governing Board chairman during a town hall meeting Tuesday.

Dr. Smith said the selection process for the post began late last year and ended the last week of February following a series of intense candidate interviews. “The new SRMC CEO was selected from among a group of four highly qualified and experienced hospital executive candidates,” he said before presenting Ms. Comissiong, 39, to the public in a ceremony that was viewed virtually and in-person.
Expressing her appreciation for the appointment, Ms. Comissiong used the occasion to thank staff members who motivated and supported her over the years. “I learned a lot of what I know today by working and interacting with many of them. I started here as an intern almost 20 years ago and trained and rotated with you and some of the department heads that are here today, so thank you.”
Ms. Comissiong recalled working alongside many of the current staff during what she said were some of the toughest times, including after hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. "I saw firsthand for myself the heroes that you are, the heart that you have and the love that you have for our hospital and our patients," she said.
She expressed gratitude to be "at the helm of such an amazing organization which I love so much." "...We have a great hospital and I am really in a good place because I have all of you on this journey with me. We are in it together with a singular focus: patients and doing what is best for the patient."
Sharing some of her immediate plans, Ms. Comissiong said the management team and staff will work together to bring prominent staff onboard, to repair facilities, to update the Meditech and IT systems, improve supply chains, and improve the hospital's finances.
“We have the team, the talent and the drive to do these things and you have my commitment to support and push for us to be the best that we can be," she said while promising to work toward the improvement of services at SRMC. "I know the importance of this role and I commit to you to do my very best for our organization and for our community."
In 2018 the National Minority Quality Forum recognized Ms. Comissiong as a leader in minority health. NMQF President and CEO Dr. Gary Puckrein said at the time, “The 2018 winners are doing amazing things that both better and diversify the healthcare marketplace. They serve as positive role models for our next generation of leaders in minority health.”

According to NMQF, Ms. Comissiong graduated with her bachelors degree from Duke University in 2000. She then earned a masters in public administration with a concentration in health policy and management from New York University in 2007. In 2014 she earned her juris doctorate from Howard University.
