The V.I. Department of Health has announced the temporary closure of the Morris F. De Castro Clinic on St. John, citing staffing challenges that will keep the facility closed through Friday, while officials work to restore normal operations.
Health officials said the closure affects several key services provided at the St. John clinic, including the Maternal Child Health (MCH) and Community Health clinics, as well as the Environmental Health and Behavioral Health offices. The department said it is actively addressing the staffing situation and aims to reopen the clinic as soon as possible.
During the closure, residents who need services are being directed to Department of Health facilities on St. Thomas. According to the department, the MCH and Community Health clinics, along with the Office of Environmental Health, are located on the second floor of Schneider Regional Medical Center. The Behavioral Health Office is operating from Barbel Plaza.
Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion acknowledged the impact of the closure on St. John residents and apologized for the disruption in services.
“We sincerely apologize to the residents of St. John for this temporary disruption in services,” Encarnacion said. “We understand the importance of accessible healthcare and appreciate the community’s patience as we work to resolve this matter.”
The Department of Health said it will notify the St. John community as soon as the Morris F. De Castro Clinic is able to reopen and resume normal operations.
