Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach on Thursday night said that the Bryan administration was nearing a deal with an insurance company that would make individual insurance available in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Speaking during an hourlong interview on the Consortium along with Governor Albert Bryan, Mr. Roach said while he could not divulge too much details, a deal was being reviewed.

"One of the big ticket items for people who are privately employed of course is health insurance because you have the benefit of health insurance through the government's policy when you are a government employee.

"Right now we are excited that we're reviewing a company's application that would actually bring an individual health product back to the territory, and we're hoping to be able to make that announcement shortly.

"We're in the process of actually reviewing their application, and one of the conversations was the price point — you don't want to bring a product that nobody can afford. But we're hoping to be able to speak to that," the lieutenant governor said during the interview, seen in full here.
