The healthcare landscape in the territory recently saw positive improvements with two notable developments: the opening of the new Administration Building at Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center and a generous donation to Schneider Regional Medical Center from the Nigel O. Hodge Foundation.

Juan F. Luis Hospital
JFL has officially opened its new Administration Building, which will now serve as the main entrance to JFL-North. This initiative is designed to streamline patient, visitor, and family access while improving hospital security and efficiency.
Effective Wednesday, April 2, 2025, several key changes will take place:
- The interim north-side entrance of JFL-North will be permanently closed to the public.
- All visitors must enter through the new Administration Building entrance.
- Enhanced safety features have been implemented, including clear directional signage and a comfortable lobby for visitors and families.
Strategic Location for Easier Navigation
The new Administration Building is positioned between two major facilities on the JFL campus, making navigation easier:
- North of the Virgin Islands Cardiac Center, providing direct access to specialty outpatient services.
- South of the JFL-North Emergency Entrance, ensuring a clear and efficient route for emergency medical care.
Outpatient Services Remain at Old JFL Building
While the new Administration Building enhances overall hospital access, certain outpatient services will continue to operate from the old JFL Building. Patients needing the following services should continue to use the old facility:
- Radiology and Laboratory Services
- Registration, Cashiers, and Scheduling
- Billing Office and Medical Records
Updated Visitation Guidelines
To maintain a safe and healing environment, JFL has reaffirmed its visitation policies:
- Visiting Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. daily.
- Visitor Limit: One (1) visitor per patient to protect privacy and minimize disruptions to care.
- Check-In Requirement: All visitors must sign in at reception and present valid identification before entering.
JFL expressed its sincere gratitude to the Territorial Hospital Redevelopment Team (THRT) for their leadership in overseeing the construction and completion of the Administration Building. Their continued work to modernize healthcare infrastructure across the territory remains a critical part of JFL’s broader mission to enhance patient care and accessibility.
The Schneider Regional Medical Center
In another positive development for healthcare facilities in the territory, SRMC has received a generous donation of children’s toys from Chester and Josephine Hodge of the Nigel O. Hodge Foundation. The donation, delivered on March 12, will be used to enhance the activity room on the third floor, providing comfort and entertainment for young patients.
The Nigel O. Hodge Foundation is dedicated to supporting families and children in the U.S. Virgin Islands during difficult times, honoring the memory of Nigel O. Hodge. Their continued generosity has helped to bring joy and relief to children undergoing medical treatment.
SRMC CEO Tina Comissiong expressed her appreciation for the foundation’s unwavering commitment. “We are deeply grateful for the ongoing support of the Nigel O. Hodge Foundation,” she said. “Their kindness and dedication to our young patients make a meaningful difference, and we appreciate their efforts in uplifting our community.”

Schneider Regional Medical Center extended heartfelt thanks to the foundation, emphasizing that this donation will bring smiles and comfort to children receiving care at the facility while continuing the foundation’s legacy of compassion and service.
