The Government Hospital and Health Facilities Corporation board approved a series of contracts Wednesday advancing healthcare redevelopment projects across the territory, including more than $2 million in specialized equipment for the Charlotte Kimmelman Cancer Institute, a seven-year laboratory-equipment lease for Schneider Regional Medical Center capped at just under $3 million, and new architectural work for Juan F. Luis Hospital projects on St. Croix.
For the Charlotte Kimmelman Cancer Institute, the board authorized sole-source procurement totaling $2,058,956.34 for specialized medical equipment from 14 vendors. The approval followed four consecutive public solicitations that failed to produce a successful procurement. The amount includes the cost of the equipment and contingency funding.
The board separately awarded $189,396.50 to Haughland VI for parking-lot paving and Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades at the cancer institute, along with $75,634.72 to Omni Systems Inc. for the procurement and installation of information-technology equipment.
Stantec Architecture will also remain involved in the cancer institute project after the board approved four additional months of construction-administration services. The firm’s existing contract was extended through September 30, 2026, and increased by $94,687, bringing its total value to $1,754,860.99.
At Schneider Regional Medical Center, board members approved a seven-year lease agreement with Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, capped at just under $3 million, for specialized medical laboratory equipment.
Several contracts involving the Juan F. Luis Hospital redevelopment effort were also approved on St. Croix.
Flad & Associates Inc. was awarded a new architectural-services contract valued at $1,497,156.09 for work associated with the JFL five-acre lease project. The contract runs from April 1 through October 28, 2026.
The firm also received the sixth amendment to an existing architectural and engineering contract for JFL’s interim dialysis facility. The amendment adds $232,929 in services and expenses, increasing the total contract value to $1,485,298.
The board approved a smaller change order for J. Benton Construction LLC involving the Green Palm office buildout. The $2,427.52 adjustment is intended to facilitate project closeout by the August 31 contract end date and brings the total contract amount to $1,698,269.52.
On St. John, board members approved another sole-source procurement after repeated unsuccessful attempts to secure a contractor through the competitive process.
Grade All Heavy Equipment Inc. was awarded $298,550 to provide interim water-tank storage and morgue-freezer facilities ahead of planned demolition work at the Myra Keating Smith Community Health Center. The sole-source procurement was authorized after four public solicitations failed to produce a successful bid.
Before concluding Wednesday’s meeting, the board also corrected an administrative error involving a Smith Group contract associated with the Myra Keating Smith Community Health Center redevelopment project.
