ST. CROIX — Frederiksted Health Care, Inc., (FHC), announced Thursday that it opened its new location at Mall of St. Croix (Sunshine Mall) in Estate Cane.

Due to Covid 19, the board of directors and management decided to host a small, soft opening celebration today for the new site, named the Lena Shulterbrandt Health Center.

The health center was named in honor of Lena Shulterbrandt; a cultural icon, advocate for town of Frederiksted and 9-term board chair of F.H.C., according to the release.

"FHC is honored that Lena Schulterbrandt served and led team FHC. The board of directors and management of F.H.C. believe that her spirit and her love for St. Croix will endure forever," stated the release. Mrs. Schulterbrandt’s son, Stewart Shulterbrandt and other relatives were present for the soft-opening.

“Ms. Schulterbrandt dedicated so much of her time and service to Frederiksted Health Care," said Board Chairman John Abramson. "She served on the Board of Directors for over 40 years and we are humbled to dedicate this site in her honor.”

The event included tours of the new health center, which will have seven exam rooms, a lab and future plans to expand and provide dental services to provide both medical and dental services to expand access to care for St. Croix, according to the release.

"I am grateful for the opening of this new Health Center, which will expand access to health care in the western part of the island. I am particularly proud of the opportunity to expand services to our community,” said F.H.C. CEO Masserae Sprauve-Webster.

F.H.C. said it believes that access to quality health care is an important building block that helps the community prosper and grow. The new site, F.H.C. said, opens the door to many who have difficulty accessing care.

"F.H.C. believes that communities should have access to care around every corner. People should not have to traverse the island seeking care. As a health provider, we are confident that this health center will help improve community health and be a valuable resource that will serve people for years to come," stated the release.

The center will start receiving patients on January 11, 2021 at 8:00 am.
