ST. CROIX -- The Department of Planning and Natural Resources has released the results of its weekly beach water quality monitoring program, revealing that seven beaches -- one here and six in St. Thomas -- do not meet water quality standards and are not safe for swimming or fishing:
They are:
St. Thomas
Frenchman’s Bay, Hull Bay, Brewer’s Bay, Vessup Bay, Water Bay and Bluebeards.
St. Croix
Halfpenny
The Beaches that are safe for swimming and fishing territory-wide this weekend are as follows:
St. Croix
Stoney Ground, Protestant Cay, Chenay Bay, Buccaneer, Cane Bay, Cramer Park, Rainbow, Shoy’s, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Pelican Cove (Comorant), Princess (Condo Row), Columbus Landing, Dorsch, Frederiksted Public Beach and Sprat Hall.
St. Thomas
Lindquist, Bolongo, Sapphire, Coki Point, Magen’s Bay, Secret Harbor and Lindbergh Bay.
St. John
Cruz Bay, Oppenhiemer, Great Cruz Bay and Frank Bay.
DPNR says Grapetree Bay on St. Croix and Johnson Bay on St. John could not be sampled this week due to the heavy presence of seaweed along the shoreline.
The department also says it will continue to monitor the impacted areas and waters.
