The Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center has announced the return of mammography services, now operating inside the Virgin Islands Cardiac Center (VICC). The move coincides with the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and highlights the importance of early detection and proactive care.
Hospital officials confirmed that JFL’s mammography program has secured full certification from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and re-accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR).
“This achievement represents JFL’s ongoing commitment to restoring and enhancing essential services for our community,” said Adeline Williams-Connor, COO of JFL. “As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage every woman to prioritize her health. Early detection saves lives.”
The resumption of mammography services is also tied to JFL’s annual awareness campaign, “Ladies, Check Yourself!” The initiative reminds women across the territory to schedule regular mammograms and remain proactive about their breast health. Mammograms are considered one of the most effective tools for detecting breast cancer early, improving treatment outcomes, and saving lives.
Appointments are now open. Residents wishing to schedule a mammogram can call 340-772-7343, extensions 5282 or 5283.
Correction, Oct. 1, 2025: An earlier version of this article, citing information from Juan F. Luis Hospital, incorrectly stated that JFL is the only certified and accredited mammography program in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In fact, St. Thomas Radiology Associates has been fully accredited by both the FDA and the American College of Radiology (ACR) for over 20 years. It also remains the only facility in the territory offering digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography) and MRI services, including breast MRI at both its St. Thomas and St. Croix locations. The article has been updated.
