VI Legislature Announces Protocols for Oath of Office, State of the Territory Events in January

The Legislature of the Virgin Islands announced Friday its guidelines for the Ecumenical, Oath of Office, Organizational ceremonies and the Governor’s State of the Territory Address which are all scheduled for January 2021.

Events and protocols:

Monday, January 11, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Members of the 34th Legislature will take their oath of office during a ceremony in the Emancipation Gardens, followed by the organization of the Body at the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall on St. Thomas.

“Regrettably our families, friends, special guests, and even our professional staff, will not be able to participate in the same way they have in previous years,” said Senate President Novelle E. Francis.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, physical attendance by members of the press will be limited under the following requirements:

  • Limited to 2 persons per media outlet in indoor spaces.
  • Interviews will be conducted in designated press areas only.
  • Must wear a mask completely covering mouth and nose while attending an event and maintain physical/social distancing.
  • All present will be subjected to mandatory security and safety screenings (i.e., temperature checks); and for coverage all equipment used for coverage must be sanitized.

The above-mentioned guidelines also apply to the Governor’s State of the Territory Address scheduled for January 25, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. at the Earle B. Ottley Legislative Hall on St. Thomas, the Legislature said.
