V.I. Director of Banking, Insurance and Financial Regulation, Gwendolyn Brady, confirmed talk making the rounds recently that she was retiring.
During a Committee on Rules and Judiciary hearing Friday, Ms. Brady said, "Yes it is true I will be retiring July 30th of this year," after being asked by senators about talk of her impending retirement.
She then remarked, “I always enjoyed coming before the Legislature of the Virgin Islands having worked there for nearly 10 years, and I want to thank the Honorable Lt. Governor Tregenza A. Roach and the Virgin Islands Banking Board. More particularly the hardworking and dedicated staff of the Division of Banking, Insurance and Financial Regulation, more importantly than anything, our God for directing me and making it so that I could help so many people along the way.”
Senator Milton Potter said, “The news has been very bittersweet but I think it would be selfish on my part to expect you to be here in this critical role forever… you have really served the people of the United States Virgin Islands extremely well so I wish you good health, prosperity and a lot of travel.”
It was obvious that Ms. Brady was beloved by members of the Legislature as Senator Franklin Johnson sang her a farewell song and said, “Enjoy your retirement Ms. Brady. It’s a pleasure working with you, it’s a pleasure knowing you.”
Following Mr. Johnson's rendition, Ms. Brady joked, “Please keep your job," which led to an eruption of laughter in the Legislative Hall.
Senator Novelle Francis joined in on the congratulatory remarks and said, “I just really want to thank her for her years of service and to congratulate her on retirement and wish her well in her future endeavors. God bless you Ms. Brady, enjoy what is left of this life but thank you for your service. ”
