The Territorial Hospital Board voted on Thursday to accept the resignation of Dr. Luis Amaro, who on Sept. 23 announced his resignation as interim CEO of the Schneider Regional Medical Center after he learned that he was not among the finalists for the permanent job. The board placed SRMC legal counsel Tina Commisiong in the interim position until a new CEO is named.

The board also revealed that new CEOs for both facilities will be announced "within a few weeks."

On St. Croix, Dyma Williams continues to serve in the interim position, the board said, and she provided reports during the meeting regarding recruitment and retention. Governor Albert Bryan told the Consortium earlier this week that he has provided $8 million each to both hospitals for retention and recruitment, which has become a major issue following vaccine mandates issued by the board.

Plans for the new hospital on St. Croix were also discussed at the meeting, including a footprint of roughly 450,000 for the entire facility, though is not expected to come online soon: demolition is projected to start in early 2023.
