After joining the agency in 2020 as the deputy director of logistics, Stephen DeBlasio Sr. has now been announced as the assistant director of the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency.

De Blasio's extensive career spans various senior-level positions, including deputy program manager for the disaster management and support environment program for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. His experience also includes serving as acting team leader of the National Incident Management Assistance Team-East (N-IMAT-East) from March 2009 through January 2010, and as a federal coordinating officer, representing the president, the secretary of Homeland Security, and the FEMA administrator during major disasters and emergency declarations.

As the newly appointed assistant director, De Blasio will be responsible for supporting VITEMA's strategic initiatives, overall development, and planning. He is also tasked with coordinating activities for local government and will offer guidance in developing emergency management plans and programs, according to a release from Government House.

VITEMA Director Daryl Jaschen expressed his confidence in the decision, stating, “Steve brings a tremendous amount of experience working with senior leaders during disaster preparation and response. This promotion from within the VITEMA family is based on his demonstrated teamwork and desire to serve our community in an ever-greater capacity. With his experience, and certification as an Emergency Manager with the International Association of emergency managers, I know he will encourage our younger VITEMA staff to pursue their own certifications.”

In his former role as deputy director of logistics, DeBlasio was responsible for the provision of incident support needs including logistics planning, communication, transportation, facilities, equipment, and off-incident resources.
