ST. CROIX — A man has been placed on a curfew and ordered to have no contact with the mother of his child following an alleged assault.
Patterson Alleyne III was arrested on Sunday after police were dispatched to Croixville Apartments on Thursday night to investigate an assault. According to the probable cause fact sheet, the victim recounted that Alleyne came to her residence while she was about to fall asleep. She stated that at the time she was on the phone with a friend and Alleyne accused her of speaking to another man. The two argued and during the disagreement, Alleyne called her derogatory names and threatened her.
During the argument, Alleyne allegedly pushed the woman, causing her to hit her head on the window near the bed and break the glass. She told police that she made two attempts to kick Alleyne but was unable to do so. He then grabbed her leg and pulled her off the bed, pulling her from the bedroom into the corridor. The woman explained that she managed to get off the floor and attempted to run towards the front door to get help but Alleyne grabbed her by the hair and pulled her backwards into the living room.
She tried to fight back but he straddled her and used his hands to cover her mouth and nose, according to the probable cause fact sheet. During the struggle which ensued, she kept trying to scream for help and told him that she could not breathe. The woman further told police that Alleyne grabbed a large garbage bag filled with clothes and placed it over her mouth. In fear for her life she pushed him off, exiting the house and calling for police assistance, at which point he fled the scene.
Following his arrest on Sunday, Patterson Alleyne was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and disturbance of the peace, all categorized as crimes of domestic violence.
He appeared for a hearing on Monday where bail was set at $1,000. The judge explained that the defendant will be allowed to post $101 in cash and that he and his court-appointed third-party custodian will both be required to sign an unsecured bond for the remainder.
Additionally, Alleyne will be placed on a 6:00 p..m to 6:00 a.m. curfew and has been prohibited from having any contact with the victim. The judge stressed that he is not to enter the premises where she resides.
