During Monday’s Government House press briefing, Virgin Islanders learned that Kevin A. Williams Sr. had been tapped to replace Karl Knight as chief of staff to Governor Albert Bryan Jr.
Mr. Williams, who joined the Bryan administration in October 2023 as chief policy advisor, has played a crucial role in overseeing policy clusters and managing the administration’s response to the ongoing water and energy crises, according to Gov't House.
With his early years in local public schools, Mr. Williams continued his academic journey at Alabama State University, where he graduated in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of the Virgin Islands in 2000.
Upon his return to the Virgin Islands after completing his bachelor’s degree, Williams began his career at the then Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands, working as a computer support technician . He quickly rose through the ranks to become the court’s Director of Information Technology by the age of 26. In this capacity, he spearheaded the transition from manual processes to technological solutions, placing the Virgin Islands judiciary at the forefront of innovation in the field, Gov't House made known.
Mr. Williams’s work at the now Superior Court of the Virgin Islands led to his appointment as Deputy Administrative Director of Technology Services at the Supreme Court of the Virgin Islands. His project management skills facilitated the implementation of public access to court cases, e-filing, online payments, live streaming of court cases, and the establishment of the first high-tech courtroom in the Virgin Islands.
In September 2018, Mr. Williams expanded his role after being appointed assistant administrator of Courts for the entire Virgin Islands judicial branch. His responsibilities included overseeing human resources, facility management, and information technology for the courts in the territory. He served in this capacity until joining Governor Bryan’s policy team.
