Governor Albert Bryan during his weekly press briefing today announced Harriet Nathalie Hodge as his nominee for the commissioner of the V.I. Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs. Known professionally by her middle name, Nathalie, Ms. Hodge is set to succeed the former commissioner Richard Evangelista, who has transitioned to the role of Government House chief legal gounsel.
Ms. Hodge is no stranger to the DLCA. With an impressive tenure of 24 years, she currently holds the position of acting commissioner. The governor highlighted her journey within the department, having served in various pivotal roles ranging from tobacco investigations coordinator to assistant commissioner. Throughout her career, Ms. Hodge has been instrumental in overseeing myriad departmental functions, including business operations, human resources, budgeting, administration, management, and steering eight professional boards and commissions.
"That's right Virgin Islanders, we're getting our money's worth out of this one," Governor Bryan quipped while discussing her vast expertise. Delving into her academic credentials, he shared that Ms. Hodge has earned a bachelor's degree from Point Park University, along with a master of science degree in both human resources and contract management.
In response to her nomination, Ms. Hodge conveyed her profound gratitude. She extended her thanks to Governor Bryan, her family, and former commissioner Evangelista for consistently backing her. Recalling her progressive journey within the DLCA, she vowed to uphold the legacy of her predecessors and expressed her unwavering commitment to the Bryan administration and the residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The next step for Ms. Hodge's nomination lies with the 35th Legislature, where it awaits approval.
