More holidays have been announced in early 2023, this time to recognize the inauguration of Governor Albert Bryan Jr. and Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach.

Both men were reelected into office for a second term earlier this month.

Ceremonies are scheduled to take place on January 2nd in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.

Inauguration ceremonies move to St. John on Jan. 3rd, and the governor has granted administrative leave for non-essential government employees in St. Johns to attend.

“On Tuesday January 3rd, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor‘s inauguration and the activities surrounding that inauguration moves to St. John and the governor has granted administrative leave to gov’t employees on the island of St. John for that date,” said Government House Communications Director, Richard Motta Jr.

The following day on Wednesday January 4th, another ceremony will be held in St. Croix. Like on St. John, non-essential government employees on St. Croix will be granted administrative leave to recognize the ceremony.

Mr. Bryan has also granted administrative leave for non-essential government employees on Thursday, January 5th for J’ouvert on St. Croix, as part of the Crucian Christmas Festival.

On Friday, Three Kings Day will be recognized as a public holiday.

The aforementioned days off are in addition to Thanksgiving on Thursday, Black Friday November 24th, Christmas Day December 25th and 26th, 2022

According to Government House, administrative leave does not apply to essential employees and employees on a regular or rotating shift.

Employees on annual or sick leave immediately preceding or immediately following the time period administrative leave is granted will not receive administrative leave, and future leave will not be substituted for employees who are considered essential and/or whose shift happens to fall on a day in which other employees are granted administrative leave.
