The USVI Division of Personnel has announced the upcoming installment of retroactive wage payments, applying a 14 percent distribution towards the outstanding retroactive wage compensation balances.

The funds are part of a commitment from Governor Albert Bryan, who proposed $25 million in retro payments owed to current, separated and retired GVI employees. The measure was eventually signed into law.

According to the release, these payments, less taxes and social security deductions, will benefit all eligible active, separated, and retired Government of the Virgin Islands employees who served in classified positions between 1990 and 2001. Exempt employees from this period do not qualify for these payments.

Additionally, the division is now accepting claims for retroactive wage compensation from survivors of eligible employees, the release states. Starting from December 6, 2023, survivors can initiate claims through the division's website. The Division urges interested parties to visit www.dopusvi.org/retrodashboard, select the relevant year, and follow special instructions provided for claim submission. All claims will be subject to a comprehensive review and validation process.

Survivors, regardless of their relationship to the deceased employee, are required to upload essential documents for claim processing. These include a valid government-issued photo ID, the deceased's death certificate, and relevant documents like marriage or birth certificates, notarized affidavits, W-9 forms, trusts, wills, or any other evidence proving their relationship to the deceased, according to the release. It's important to note that each claim must be accompanied by all the necessary documents, even if they were submitted in previous years.

To be considered for payment in the current allocation, survivors must submit their claims by May 31, 2024. For inquiries or assistance, survivors can contact the Division via email at [email protected] or use the dedicated hotline at (340) 714-5010.

The division encourages individuals to visit their website for further information and frequently asked questions. The processing of these payments will be managed by the Department of Finance.
