The V.I. Department of Finance announced on Thursday that a technical glitch caused a delay in direct deposit payroll payments to government employees.
DOF says the issue was discovered and fixed in the early hours of Thursday, which affected the timely dispersal of employees' wages.
In a formal statement, the department expressed its regret over the incident, acknowledging the inconvenience that may have been caused by the unexpected delay. "We sincerely apologize for the inconveniences this delay may have caused and assure government employees will receive their direct deposit payments by noon," the statement read.
Most employees of the government of the Virgin Islands receive their salaries on a biweekly basis on Thursdays. Semi autonomous entities, such as the V.I. Port Authority, and the V.I. Water and Power Authority, among others, generate their own payrolls from within their operations.
