Check Your Mailbox: Dept. of Finance Releases $3 Million in Tax Refunds

The V.I. Dept. of Finance has announced that 1174 tax refund checks totaling $3 million were delivered to the Post Office Friday morning for immediate distribution.

The batch includes refunds for correct tax returns filed through March 2, 2022, for various tax years through 2021, the department said.

The release comes as Governor Albert Bryan vows to keep tax refunds flowing on time, according to statements from the governor during an interview with the Consortium in January.  Mr. Bryan said now that the government is up to date with payments following years of lump sum disbursements from his administration totaling $250 million, and with tax refunds annually ranging between $40 million to $50 million, refunds have become manageable. Add to that the benefit of Earned Income Tax Credit being refunded to taxpayers, the cost to the government is slashed further by roughly $20 million, he said.

The Department of Finance said it is committed to providing efficient government financial services to the people of the Virgin Islands.
