Governor Albert Bryan will testify before the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources on Wednesday, Government House made known Monday.
The governor is expected to brief the committee on the state of the territory, the territory’s priorities for 2022 and President Joe Biden’s fiscal year 2023 budget request,” said Richard Motta, the administration's communications director who said the hearing will be available for live viewing.
“The hearing will be live-streamed on the Committee’s YouTube page,” Mr. Motta said Monday during the weekly press briefing.
According to the 2023 budget document, which is available online, Mr. Biden's proposals would help expand the productive capacity of the U.S. economy to create jobs, bring down prices, and continue the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic. It would also improve public health infrastructure and spur transformational medical research, according to the document.
Other priorities of the budget include combating and preventing gun violence and other violent crime; driving action to lead the world in combating the climate crisis; and making higher education more affordable and accessible while advancing equity, opportunity, and security for all Americans.
Elsewhere in Washington, Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett has unveiled her office’s priorities for fiscal year 2023 regarding community project funding requests for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“Under Democratic leadership, the appropriations process this year has allowed for members to make requests for funding of specific projects with certain stipulations," said Ms. Plaskett, who serves on the House Ways and Means, Budget and Agriculture Committees. "Last month, Governor Bryan submitted a list of projects that his administration was interested in my office submitting. It has been my priority to focus my requests on providing solutions through social services, specifically tackling homelessness and behavioral and mental health issues, as well as reducing crime rates in the territory."
