Bryan Joins V.I. Dept. of Labor, Workforce Development Board for 2021 Workforce Summit

Governor Albert Bryan will join the V.I Dept. of Labor and the V.I. Workforce Development Board to host daylong workshops on all three islands on October 6-8 as part of the administration's initiatives to increase workforce development and stabilize the economy, according to a release from Gov't House.

Michael Fazio, president of Workforce 180, and Asiah Clendinen Gumbs, of the V.I. Workforce Development Board, will emcee each day of the Workforce Summit, and they will be joined by V.I. Labor Commissioner Gary Molloy and Chairman of the V.I. Workforce Development Board Michael Carty. Mr. Bryan will open each day of the summit and the keynote speaker will be Ron Painter, CEO of the National Association of Workforce Boards.

The governor will also close each session of the summit and deliver his call to action, and there will be a career fair following each day’s workshops. Mr. Bryan will also moderate a breakout session each morning on “Barriers and Solutions to Filling Virgin Islands Infrastructure Jobs.”

  • Thriving in a Jobseeker’s Market: How to Attract, Recruit and Retain Quality Talent
  • Workforce Resources for Employers – Recruitment, Incentives and Upskilling
  • Becoming an Eligible Training Provider and Seeking Government Funding: The Do’s and Don’ts
  • Financial Empowerment: Improving Our Client’s Economical Journey Through Financial Literacy and Training
  • The Future of the Virgin Islands Maritime Workforce
  • Aligning Workforce Development with Economic Development to Grow and Retain Your Workforce
  • Embed with VIDOL: The Forgotten Workforce: Getting Justice Involved Individuals Back to Work
  • Hustle and Grind: Tips for Job Searching

 

The Workforce Summit will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Career and Training Job Expo will take place from 3 to 5 p.m.:

  • October 6 at Caribbean Cinema at Sunny Isle on St. Croix
  • October 7 at Caribbean Cinema at Market Square East on St. Thomas
  • October 8 at the Cleone H. Creque Legislative Conference Room on St. John/

 

The Workforce Summit is free to attend, and participants can register online at www.vidol.gov/workforcesummit2021 or by calling 340-227-0061.

The Workforce Summit is open for in-person attendance to vaccinated residents only, and the first 50 people to register on each island for in-person participation will receive a tablet and a bag of training materials.
