Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has granted two days of administrative leave to non-essential government employees in November, closing non-essential government offices on Monday, November 2, and Friday, November 27, while essential services will continue operating.
Mr. Bryan announced the decision Monday during his weekly Government House press briefing, providing eligible employees with additional time off in observance of Liberty Day and the Thanksgiving holiday.
Liberty Day, also known as D. Hamilton Jackson Day, is observed annually on November 1 in recognition of the Virgin Islands leader's contributions to workers' rights, freedom of the press and opportunities for Virgin Islanders. Because the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, administrative leave will be granted on Monday, November 2.
The second day of administrative leave, Friday, November 27, falls immediately after Thanksgiving, providing eligible government employees with an extended holiday weekend.
“Liberty Day reminds us of people like David Hamilton Jackson, who stood up for the rights of Virgin Islanders and helped create opportunities for future generations,” Governor Bryan said.
“I also want to recognize our government employees for the work they do every day to serve our people. The holidays are a time to spend with family, give thanks and remember the people and traditions that make our Virgin Islands special,” he added.
Government House emphasized that the administrative leave applies only to non-essential employees. Essential government services will remain available on both dates, and employees designated as essential personnel or assigned to regular or rotating shifts must report to work as scheduled.
