Governor Albert Bryan Jr. is in Washington, D.C. this week to attend two important gatherings aimed at addressing key policy issues impacting U.S. territories, Government House announced Tuesday morning.
The governor is participating in the 2025 Interagency Group on Insular Areas (IGIA) meetings at the U.S. Department of the Interior, as well as the National Governors Association’s (NGA) 2025 Winter Meeting.
The IGIA meetings serve as a platform for federal officials and representatives from U.S. territories to engage in discussions on policy matters affecting the islands. Topics of focus include economic development, infrastructure improvements, and strengthening federal partnerships.
These meetings play a vital role in shaping federal policies that directly impact the territories.
Meanwhile, the NGA Winter Meeting offers governors from across the United States a chance to interact with federal leaders and fellow state executives. The gathering facilitates discussions on key national policy initiatives and shared governance priorities.
Mr. Bryan will also meet with key congressional leaders from both parties during his visit to Washington, the governor told the Consortium. With the territory heavily reliant on federal support, fostering collaboration under President Donald Trump’s administration remains crucial for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Lieutenant Governor Tregenza Roach has assumed the role of acting governor.
