On Tuesday, Governor Albert Bryan Jr. announced the appointment of Kevin Rodriquez, who served as Mr. Bryan's deputy chief of staff, as the Interim Island Administrator for the St. Thomas/Water Island District. This appointment comes in the wake of Administrator Avery Lewis's decision to run for a seat in the 36th Legislature of the Virgin Islands.

As per Virgin Islands law, specifically Title 18 Chapter 1 Subsection 2 of the Virgin Islands Code (VIC 18 V.I.C. § 2), candidates seeking election to the Virgin Islands Legislature must take a leave of absence from their governmental duties from the date of filing their nomination petition until the date of the ensuing general election. Mr. Lewis officially filed his nomination paperwork on Tuesday, May 22, necessitating this temporary leadership transition.

"Avery Lewis has served the St. Thomas/Water Island district with dedication and deep commitment to our community. While he will be missed in his role, we fully support his decision to pursue a seat in the 36th Legislature and wish him well in his future endeavors," Governor Bryan stated.

Kevin Rodriquez, the newly appointed Interim Island Administrator, brings extensive experience in public administration and a deep understanding of the needs and challenges facing the community. His leadership is expected to ensure a seamless continuation of services during this interim period, according to Gov't House.

"I am confident that Kevin Rodriquez can assist the residents of St. Thomas and Water Island during this transitional time. His track record of effective management and community engagement positions him well to build on our progress," said Governor Bryan.

The governor expressed gratitude to Mr. Lewis for his service and to Mr. Rodriquez for stepping into this critical role at an important time for the islands.
