ST. JOHN — Dunia Rodriguez, 57, on Thursday surrendered herself to authorities at the Richard N. Callwood Command in St. John. Her arrest comes nearly two months after an alleged assault took place at Hansen Bay Beach.
According to the VIPD, the initial incident unfolded on Saturday, July 1 around 5:34 p.m. The alleged victim said she was enjoying her time at Hansen Bay Beach when Rodriguez approached her. The encounter quickly escalated as Rodriguez began to yell and curse at her. Matters took a violent turn when Rodriguez allegedly threw the woman to the ground and initiated a physical assault. During the scuffle, the victim tried to defend herself, a move that resulted in Rodriguez breaking her arm.
Upon turning herself in, Rodriguez was advised of her constitutional rights, booked, and processed. She faces several charges, including third-degree assault, simple assault, disturbance of the peace, and assault with bodily fluid. she is currently held on a $25,000 bail.
The case is still under active investigation by the VIPD's Criminal Investigation Bureau. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to step forward.
