Governor Albert Bryan said Monday his administration will be issuing $25 million in tax refunds to residents in the next two weeks. Mr. Bryan announced the upcoming issuances during the Gov't House weekly Covid-19 response update.
“As promised, our administration is issuing $15 million in income tax returns this week,” he said. The governor said the first week of payments would consist of 7,400 checks, and “will address refunds for tax year 2018 and those who have recently filed their 2016 and 2017 income taxes.”
According to Mr. Bryan, in addition to the first set of checks, there will be another $10 million in refund payments being issued next week.
The territory's leader said that after the upcoming refunds have been paid, his administration will have set a Virgin Islands record. “As we issue that, the Bryan-Roach administration have actually issued more than $155 million in tax returns, another Virgin Islands record," he said.
He also mentioned that the government had issued $226 million in total stimulus payments. “We are paying down the long-standing obligations of the government and we are starting to pay what is owed to the people for years and years," Mr. Bryan said.
