Retirees and police argued outside Gov't House on St. Croix today during a protest action calling on government officials to "save G.E.R.S." By. ERNICE GILBERT/ VI CONSORTIUM

Retirees on St. Croix clashed with police today as they descended on Government House in Christiansted to protest inaction by lawmakers and Governor Albert Bryan on the Government Employees' Retirement System, which is projected to crash before Mr. Bryan's first term ends in less than three years. If there is no action from the administration or lawmakers, the GERS board will be forced to slash retirees pension by 30 percent, a draconian move that retirees say would destroy their annuities.
