The Virgin Islands Police Department has announced parking and traffic restrictions for Festival J’ouvert, the Festival Children’s and Adult’s Parades, the new Festival Jou’Day tramp and the Crucian Rican Tramp.

J’Ouvert, Jan. 1: Beginning at 3 a.m. and ending at 12 noon, parking is prohibited on King Street to the Festival Village, Fisher Street from the Post Office to the Fish Market and all of Strand Street in Frederiksted. Like last year, the event has two start points and times. At 4 a.m, the J’Ouvert troupes are scheduled to begin at Festival Village, head south on King Street, make a right at the UCA building onto Strand Street, make a left on Fisher Street, turn left on King Street and continue back down to the Festival Village. At 6 a.m., the bands performing without troupes are scheduled to begin at the Hannah’s Rest intersection and continue toward Frederiksted town, turning left onto Fisher Street and right onto King Street to the Festival Village. Those roads will be closed until the end of the event.

Children’s Parade on Jan. 3 and Adult’s Parade on Jan. 4: Beginning at 5 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m., parking is prohibited on Fisher Street and King Street in Frederiksted, from the Post Office to the Carnival Village. Both parades will begin at the Claude O. Markoe Elementary School.

Jou’Day, Jan 5: Beginning at 3 a.m. and ending at 12 noon, parking is prohibited from Bassin Triangle, down King Street and Hospital Street to the D. C. Canegata Ball Park. Beginning at 6 a.m., the tramp will take that route, beginning at Bassin Triangle, going down King Street, make a right onto Hospital Street, and end at the D. C. Canegata Ball Park. Those roads will be closed until the end of the event.

Crucian Rican Tramp, Jan. 6: Beginning at 3 a.m. and ending at 12 noon, parking is prohibited from Bassin Triangle, down King Street and Company Street to King Cross Street. Beginning at 6 a.m., the tramp will begin at Bassin Triangle, go down King Street, make a right onto Hospital Street, make an immediate right onto Company Street, and end at the Christian “Shan” Hendricks Market. Those roads will be closed until the end of the event.

Any vehicles found parked within the restricted areas between the hours specified will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense, the V.I.P.D. said.

"We want to notify parents not to allow their minor children attending these events to consume alcoholic beverages. Also, beverages in glass bottles will be prohibited," the V.I.P.D. added.

The VIPD said regrets any inconvenience these detours may cause. For more information, contact the Office of the Chief of Police at (340) 712-6005.
